Govt trains monitoring and evaluation officers

Chief Economist in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Kumbukani Ng’ambi has described monitoring and evaluation exercises as crucial in the country, saying they assist in gaining or maintaining donor supported projects.

He made the statement in Mzuzu during a training workshop his office, through Development-Effectiveness-Accountability Program, organized for monitoring and evaluation officers from Mzuzu City Council and its partnering ministries.

Ng’ambi said each time proper monitoring and evaluation processes are conducted on a project or program, the financiers get encouraged and continue with the projects.

“The Ministry of Finance is conducting trainings for monitoring and evaluation officers in all the country’s councils, to sharpen their knowledge and skills,” Ng’ambi said.

Speaking on behalf of Mzuzu City Council, Assistant Director of Administration, Christopher Phiri, urged participants to take seriously the basics they learn.

He said “this would help to enforce transparency and accountability in the city council’s projects.”
