JUMA calls for an end to impunity

Journalists Union of Malawi JUMA has asked government to protect its citizens against elements that take the law into their hands.

JUMA has said this as together with International Federation of Journalists and all affiliates across the world is today commemorating the third UN Day against impunity for crimes targeting journalists.

A statement cosigned by JUMA’s president Mthetho Lungu and Secretary General Charles Mkula says the event marks the start of a campaign by the IFJ and its affiliates to end impunity globally.

“JUMA has noted with concern the way the state security apparatus recently acted against journalists, say Lungu and Mkula.

They blame governments’ failure to hold those who threat, attack journalists and kill media professionals to account for their actions.
