Malawi bans imported meat
Malawi Bureau of Standards MBS has suspended importation of meat and meat products from South Africa and other countries in the region due to the outbreak of listeria bacteria.
Steven Kamuloni of MBS says the bureau has ordered immediate withdrawal of imported meat and their products from supermarkets and other shopping outlets.
Kamuloni says MBS will take appropriate action targeting specific outlets to ensure affected stocks are removed from the market.
“In view of the above he says MBS staff are advised to undertake market surveys and action on the substandard products,” says Kamuloni.
He further says MBS will not allow entry of any meat and meat products from South Africa and countries within the region.
