Malawians vote in Liwawadzi bi-elections

People in Liwawadzi ward, Balaka district have voted in bi-elections.

The voting was marred by low turnout and the voters in Admarc as well as Machinjiri office block centres told Radio Islam that the polling process was easy and fast hence able to continue their activities.

Speaking at Khwisa School which is one of the twenty polling centres the commissioner Moffat Banda of Malawi Electoral Commission commended people in Liwawadzi ward for voting peacefully.

“We are very happy that people in this area have cast their ballots in a peaceful manner,” Banda says

20, 482 people were expected to cast their votes in twenty polling centres.

Six candidates representing Democratic Progressive Party DPP, Mbakuwaku Movement, PP, FP and two independents are vying for the position.

Malawi Electoral Commission disqualified candidates of UDF and MCP because of inadequate nominators and late submission of the nomination forms.

The bi-elections take place following the death of the ward councilor in October last year.
