Mixed reactions on May 20 Polls results

Four major political parties in the country have reacted differently on the official results of the just ended parliamentary and local government elections.

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) yesterday announced the results for parliamentary and local government elections.

According to the parliamentary results, 52 seats have gone to independent candidates, 50 to Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), 48 to Malawi Congress Party (MCP), People’s Party (PP) got 26 while United Democratic Front scooped 14 seats.

However, reacting to this development DPP Publicity Secretary, Nicholas Dausi, said his party is satisfied with the results as it is the true reflection of the people’s will.

On his part UDF Publicity Secretary, Ken Ndanga, said the party is pleased to note that peace and calm has returned in all parts of the country even though the elections were marred by numerous irregularities.

However MCP Publicity Secretary said it is very unfortunate that the rigging syndrome in the presidential elections was extended to parliamentary and local government elections.

Speaking on behalf of People’s Party, its Publicist Ken Msonda, said the results do not reflect the people’s will.
