Police partners with NICE Trust against political violence
Kanengo police station in conjunction with National Initiative for Civic Education Trust (NICE)have embarked on a confidence building mission to people on violence free meetings ahead of 2019 elections within its jurisdiction.
Speaking during an awareness meeting held on 29 June 2018,to a committee known as Kanengo Senior Politicians Against Violence (KASPAV), the officer in charge for Kanengo police station Mr.
George Mtetemera, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) urged members of the committee to put more effort on their duty of sensitising their fellow politicians to desist from violence during their meetings.
In her speech, NICE Trust Coordinator for Lilongwe urban Mrs. Hajira Alli said,every person regardless of gender,race and colour has to enjoy all the rights as provided in the Republican Constitution of sensitized participants on democracy and constitutional matters.
In his remarks, the president of KASPAV, Mr. Frank Mwanyongo thanked the Police for its initiatives that makes Kanengo crime free society.
“I assure organisers that the participants will deliver and there will be peace during their meetings as they stand together,” Mwanyongo expressed
KASPAV is an initiative introduced by Kanengo police station in conjunction with NICE trust in 2008 which comprises of senior politicians from all political parties to assist in handling of misunderstandings of political issues within its policing areas.
The meeting was attended by KASPAV members, Traditional leaders, heads of faith community and leaders of kabaza association in the area.
