Ministry of education has said selection of students into public universities will from this year include three new universities from the delinking of University of Malawi UNIMA

This follows the establishment of a Transition Unit TU to oversee and conclude all activities and issues that may arise during the de-linking of University of Malawi UNIMA by 31st December this year.

Ministry of education has gazzetted 4th May 2021 to be the commencement date for establishment of the three universities which are Malawi University of Business and applied sciences MUBAS, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences KUHes and University of Malawi UNIMA

Acting secretary for education Raphael Agabu in a press statement made available to Radio Islam says the TU started its work on 15th April and has met management teams of four UNIMA colleges.

“From 27th April until 31st December the unit will be meeting with stakeholders to ensure all requirements for the transition take place as outlined in the 2018 report by the taskforce on the delinking,” Agabu

Government proceeded with the delinking of UNIMA colleges into stand alone universities after a meeting which was chaired by vice president on 18th February this year
