TUM declares strike against government

Teachers Union of Malawi TUM has declared a national wide strike for all teachers in public primary and secondary schools including teachers training colleges.

In a letter, TUM president Willie Malimba said all teachers shall hold an industrial action in a form of stay away from Monday 22nd February

Speaking to radio Islam Malimba said government has not taken seriously the pleas from teachers to provide them with covid 19 risk allowances, recruiting IPTE 13 and 14 teachers as well as providing personal protective equipment

Government announced that schools will reopen on Monday 22 February after closure of 4 weeks due to new wave of covid 19
