
MACODA requests Additional Funding
Malawi Council for Disability Affairs MACODA has requested approximately 2.1 billion kwacha from the 2025 to 2026 national budget for its operations saying the current allocation of 3 billion kwacha is insufficient
Speaking during a meeting with parliamentary committee on social welfare and community affairs at parliament building director general of MACODA George Chiusiwa stressed that the council has been unable to fill critical management positions due to financial constraints
Chiusiwa also informed the committee that MACODA has developed a draft financial inclusion policy aimed at facilitating access to loans from financial institutions for persons with disability
The policy according to Chiusiwa has been submitted to national economic empowerment fund NEEF for consideration
Meanwhile chairperson of the parliamentary committee Savel Kafwafwa urged NEEF to support MACODA by providing access to loans for individuals with disabilities
Kafwafwa assured MACODA of the committee’s commitment to advocate for additional funding necessary for implementation of the new ACT 2024 urging government to offer financial support to the council
