Oman Rescue Campaign launched in Malawi

Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives CDEDI has launched an initiative called Oman Rescue Campaign aimed at saving Malawian women stuck in Oman country

The launch of the initiative comes following the expiry of 7 day ultimatum CDEDI gave president Lazarus Chakwera to address the nation on the fate of 50 women in Oman

Executive director of the centre Sylvester Namiwa says the initiative will also discourage those intending to travel to such countries

Meanwhile, spokesperson in the ministry of foreign affairs says government has secured funding for air tickets of the ladies but is yet to secure funds for the redemption fees.

Jon Kawaye, says government is therefore looking for internal resources as well as external support from partners in order to facilitate the repatriation of the ladies.

Kawaye has since asked all stakeholders in the country to join the campaign to sensitize Malawians on the dangers of following unscrupulous job agents.
